List of fun things to do with your child before they enter kindergarten.
Go for a walk and look for letters of the alphabet all around you! For example, two branches on the ground might form the letter T. The goal is to find the letters without having to move items around to create the letter. Mark off each letter as you find it!
Time needed: 15 minutes.
Check what materials you have and arrange by size and texture. Arranged pinecones.
If you plan to hang your bug hotel, loop some garden twine round and then start layering your bug hotel.
Stuff it to make it nice and firm, so it doesn’t get blown about!
Make Ice Cream in a Bag.
STEP 1. Place the ice and salt in a gallon size bag; set aside.
STEP 2. In a smaller bag mix together half and half, vanilla and sugar. Make sure to seal the bag tightly.
STEP 3. Place the smaller bag inside the gallon size bag. Shake the bags for about 5 minutes until your milk is solid.
Make sure to use gloves as the bag gets very cold.
STEP 4. Enjoy
Do something nice and show kindness to others! These activities are great ways to show your generosity.
We have a kindness tree in the children's area at the library. Write a kindness message on a leaf, cut it out, and tape it on the tree (with masking tape).
Listen to a podcast.
Set up an obstacle course indoors. Arrange your furniture so there are things to crawl under, climb over, walk along, hop along, etc.
Here are some ideas:
After a few passes through the course, encourage your children to stretch their imaginations and rearrange the obstacles.
1. Reflect on the year so far and offer a word that represents your experience this year.
2. Select a word for how you want to celebrate the summer. What is a word or phrase that you want to use to help anchor them to their truest selves during this time of immense challenge and complexity?
The library will make a Word Cloud of these words, and they will be anonymous.

Play a board game or card game.
